Five Keys To Actualize Your Dreams This Year

Image
“ If you can dream it, you can do it. ” - Walt Disney The first month of 2018 will in the next couple of hours give way to February. Sadly, however, rather than look at the approaching month with optimism, some persons have consigned themselves to fate. Why so? I have discovered that the more one`s hopes and expectations are dashed (and essentially never seeing the light of day) and the longer it takes, it has a way of crippling that individual`s sense of passion, drive, creativity, and optimism. As a matter of fact, some persons simply throw their hands in despair, with the refrain, ‘whatever will be, will be’. Such a depressing state is usually born out of the fact that in spite of investing so much time, effort and sometimes money in the pursuit of one dream or the other, there is virtually nothing of substance to show for all the work; they never seem to realize their dreams. It is as though chasing the wind – being on a wild goose chase, as it were. The first week of 2018 w...

When Life Does Not Make Sense

During much of my teenage years, I had quite a simplistic view of life; one that I presume is akin to that of many teenagers and adults. I held the general view that good things happen to good people and that bad things happen to bad people. One of its variations I thought, was that the serious and hardworking student is the one who eventually lands a good job and does well in life. A parent looks into the eyes of her promiscuous young daughter, and says: “you will not find a good man to marry in future”. Another parent sees his obedient and respectful son, and whispers: “this son of mine will make me proud some day.” Yet another parent looks at his brilliant daughter and says: “she will become a renowned professor in future”. These are all well and good. However, over the years, I have discovered tha...

Guard Your Focus With Passion

Image
I once heard a brief but profound quote that made quite an impression on me. It simply states thus: “where focus goes, energy flows.” Over and over again, I have found this quote true in my life. As a writer, some of my most unproductive seasons have been times when I got distracted by a variety of competing responsibilities and the pressures of life. On such occasions, rather than focus on marketing my services, attending to projects and creating quality content for my blogs and other websites, my energies were channeled towards tackling one challenge or the other that had nothing whatsoever to do with my career. Creativity, drive, and motivation have been at their lowest thus impacting negatively on career advancement and revenue generation. Conversely, some of my most productive seasons have been times when I remained focused on the task at hand. There is this drive that becomes apparent when the focus is maintained and this has a direct bearing on performance, irrespectiv...
