Rekindle Your Hopes and Dreams

Image
Most likely, a year ago, you looked at the then approaching year (2015) with high hopes, aspirations and dreams. You envisaged a new year replete with fulfilled dreams and phenomenal accomplishments. You might have even gone a step further to put into writing your plans, goals and resolutions for 2015. That is all well and good . Fast-forward to December 2015, and for some strange reasons, almost all the goals you itemized have failed to materialize till date. When you look back at the past eleven months, you see some measure of progress but sadly, such successes seem dwarfed by the myriad of failures, setbacks, and disappointments; dashed hopes and dreams. Perhaps your situation has even worsened, instead of getting better over time. Indeed, the year thus far might have gone really bad even though you did all you knew to do within the confines of the law and morality. You pursued this dream and that dream, but in spite of all your well meaning efforts, that dream has faile...

8 Kinds of Job Offers You Should Decline

Image
In a nation where graduate unemployment levels are continually on the ascendancy and where there is intense competition for the relatively few jobs on the job market, many are tempted to pursue and accept virtually any job offer. Many scramble for all kinds of jobs without giving thought to the potential hazards associated with such jobs and many other relevant factors. My education and experience, coupled with observation has taught me some valuable lessons which I will attempt to distill for the benefit of many unemployed graduates and by extension, employees who on ‘the wrong job.’ Jobs which are evidently hazardous to your health But for money, many employees and potential employees throw caution to the wind in their job search. You should never place your job or career over and above your health. If your job is proving hazardous to your health, you should quickly devise an exit plan. I had to quit my job as a Data Entry Specialist with a prestigious telecommunication ...

Are You A Square Peck In A Round Hole?

Image
You have landed a new job, have been assigned a new role or have been promoted within a given establishment but just don`t seem to fit? Having a rough ride settling down to your new role? Are you giving your new assignment the best short but still quite unable to meet targets and achieve as much as your work colleagues? Well, if your answer to any of the afore-posed questions is in the affirmative, just keep calm; such a seemingly awkward experience is not unique to you. It is the lot of many and please don`t be too quick to consign yourself to the belief that you are ‘a square peg in a round hole.’ It is quite a natural phenomenon to experience difficulties in a new role or job, especially over the course of the first few weeks.           Also worth-noting is the fact that there are simple, yet potent measures you can take that will make the ride much smoother, perhaps shortening your rough ride season –adjusting to you...

The Environmental Impact Of Illegal Samll Scale Mining in Ghana

Image
“We won’t have a society if we destroy the environment.” - Margaret Mead             Ghana, the West African nation is rich in mineral resources, such as gold, ivory, diamond, manganese and many more. Consequently, mining operations are constantly being carried out communities, usually in remote areas that have these rich deposits. Gold operations (and by extension other forms of mining such as the mining of diamond) in Ghana are in two sectors, the large scale sector and the small scale sector. Generally, any mining operation with concession up to 25 acres is considered a small-scale mine.              Admittedly, Ghana is confronted with a number of serious environmental challenges. These include land degradation, coastal erosion, pollution of rivers and lagoons, deforestation, desertification and waste management. This article seeks to explore the illegal sm...

Tackling the Challenge of Graduate Unemployment; A Personal Initiative

Image
The nation`s universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions annually churn out a large pool of human resource (graduates) and that is essentially a good thing but the harsh reality is that, the job market in our beloved country is relatively small and is not expanding at a faster rate to absorb the large pool of graduates. Mr. Franklin Owusu-Karikari, CEO of Africa Collegiate Entrepreneurs (ACE) is on record to have made the following observations barely a few months ago: It is estimated that 250, 000 people including 68,000 fresh graduates from tertiary institutions seek employment in Ghana every year, out of which only 5,000 people, representing two percent of the total number, are employed by the formal sector. This suggests that annually, an estimated 98 percent of graduates are unable to secure jobs in the formal sector. This is obviously a gloomy picture but there certainly is hope. The adage, “where there is a will, there is a way” rings true.   ...

5 Ways To Advertise Without Paying A Dime

Image
Doing something without advertising is like winking at a beautiful girl in the dark. You know what you are doing but nobody else does” –S. H. Britt             Is there such a thing as free advertising? There sure is but sadly many are unaware of where and how to leverage on free advertising. Some are even unaware of the possibility of advertising for free. It is common knowledge that many companies the world over spend huge sums of money on advertisement via both the electronic and print media. Owing to the benefits of advertising, many media houses are making lots of money off the backs of many companies. It is also an open secret that even global brands such as coca cola do not take advertising for granted. Their adverts still run on television screens. They have a clear comprehension of the value of advertising.             Advertising is obviously so essential ...

Your Dreams Are Within Your Reach

Image
“Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true” –Leon J. Sueres Humans naturally have the proclivity to quit in the cause of the pursuance of a given dream or set goal when in spite of significant efforts over a considerable amount of time, failure stares them in the face. The reality is that, we sometimes go through seasons in life where giving up seems the only logical option; seasons where nothing seems to work and where challenges seem to defy all attempts at proffering a remedy.           It is interesting to note however that people who have made their mark in the annals history and left indelible imprints for good in the sands of time such as Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Ghandi,  Abraham Lincoln, Billy Graham, Hellen keller, Thomas Edison and the likes encountered long streaks of failures and disappointments in their life`s journeys. In such instances, giving up...

FOUNDER`S DAY; A LESSON ON PATRIOTISM

Image
Founder`s Day is a statutory public holiday in Ghana and thus observed annually on the 21 st of September to commemorate the birthday of Ghana`s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. It was initiated a few years ago under the Presidency of Professor John Evans Atta Mills and consolidated by the Mahama - led administration.             The christening of this celebration has aroused an ongoing debate in certain quarters but is irrelevant to the message I yearn to put across. The founding fathers of our dear nation obviously had a dream; a dream that was not limited to the political emancipation of the Gold Coast but also her economic emancipation. Their dream was to make Ghana a beacon of hope to the African continent and a conducive domicile for her citizenry.             One of those who cham...
