BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF MY DAD (THE LATE MR. PROSPER K. DUNOO)
The late Mr. Prosper K. Dunoo was born on November 10, 1932, to Mr. P. K. Dunoo of Atiavi and Madam Victoria Dornor of Ada Foah (both deceased). He was named after his father, inheriting the "K" in his official name.
After
initially herding his father's cattle at Wute, Volta Region, Mr. Prosper K. Dunoo’s
educational journey began in 1948 at Wute Evangelical Presbyterian Primary
School. Due to his late start, he initially trailed his younger sibling, Mr.
Moses Dunoo, but was promoted to join him in class three.
As a
devout Christian, Mr. Prosper K. Dunoo was baptized in 1945, at Wute, and later
confirmed at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church at Atiavi in 1954 by the late
Rev. A. K. Abutiate.
To
access better educational opportunities, Mr. Prosper K. Dunoo and his sibling relocated
to Atiavi, continuing their education at Atiavi L/A Middle School from 1953 to
1956, obtaining Middle School Leaving Certificate (MSLC).
He
furthered his education at the Normal Technical College, Koforidua, where he
pursued Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, and graduated in 1960.
Following
a bumpy and sustained job hunt, the Late Mr. Prosper K. Dunoo eventually gained
employment with the Geological Survey Department (now Ghana Geological Survey
Authority), as a Laboratory Technician in Accra. He was later transferred to
Tamale in 1964, where he worked until 1966.
After
the first coup d'état in Ghana in 1966, the team were to be transferred enbloc
in the latter part of 1966, to Saltpond in the Central Region, and he declined
to relocate, culminating in his resignation that same year.
Shortly
thereafter, he had an appointment with the State Construction Corporation (SCC)
as a Site Supervisor, overseeing a couple of projects undertaken in the
Northern Region, by the state institution.
His
bosom friend, who hails from the same hometown (Atiavi), Mr. Emmanuel Fiagbenya
of blessed memory, who was working with Volta Paints Supply, Tamale branch,
introduced him to Mr. Mark Atiga (of blessed memory), the CEO and Chairman of
Volta Paints Supply chain of companies, where he agreed to open a branch in
Bolgatanga in 1969, as the premier hardware company.
Mr.
Prosper K. Dunoo then resigned from the SCC in 1969 and worked with Volta
Paints Supply as the Manager in charge of the Bolgatanga branch.
A
year earlier (1968), prior to taking up his new role, Mr. Prosper K. Dunoo had met
his beloved wife, Madam Esther Lawer. The two subsequently got married in 1970.
Despite work challenges that kept them apart for many years, their love
endured.
In
1979 and 1981, an era characterized by military interventions in the country, Mr.
Prosper K. Dunoo decided to relocate to Akatsi in the Volta Region to engage in
commercial transport, farming and corn mill business ventures. He later revived
his business in Bolgatanga in 1986.
In
the year 1988, he entered a joint venture (Life Affairs Enterprise) with a
friend, Mr. Oppong Kyekyeku, which lasted for a couple of decades. Over the
course of that period, he fellowshipped for the most part with the Bolgatanga
branch of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He occasionally worshipped with
the Salvation Army Church in Bolgatanga.
In
2012, Mr. Prosper K. Dunoo finally settled in Tamale to be with his nuclear
family, owing to his advanced age.
Mr. Prosper
K. Dunoo’s life was marked by resilience, hard work, and dedication. His
passing on August 29, 2024, at 2:10 a.m. leaves a void in the lives of his
loved ones. We take comfort in the memories of his remarkable life and the
knowledge that he is now at peace in the bosom of the Lord.
Rest
in peace, dear father. Your legacy will live on in our hearts. “Hede nyuie”.
